Hu O'Reilly is from Crosserlough, Co. Cavan, and graduated from DIT School of Photography, Dublin, in 1999. The next 5 years were spent learning the trade as an assistant photographer in Dublin, before travelling in Europe, Latin America, and Brazil, and spending a year photographing passengers on cruise ships sailing around Europe, North Africa, the Caribbean and Brazil.
Since 2006 Hu has been working as freelance photographer in Dublin. Recent commissions include Powers Whiskey, Lotto, Transport 21 and Tesco Ireland. He has worked on many documentary projects including covering the refugee and displaced peoples crisis in Eastern Chad, the day-to-day problems facing Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank, and the forgotten plight of Burmese refugees in Northern Thailand.
